The REFRESH team enjoyed a highly successful week in Paris at JEC World 2025, where we presented the project’s solutions for advancing wind turbine blade circularity.

Partners ETAT9, Enecolab, Gees Recycling, Gjenkraft and RINA were busy on the REFRESH booth, making new connections, discussing the REFRESH blade recycling technologies, and showing demonstration products containing recycled materials.

We also had the great pleasure of meeting Laure Baillargeon, Policy Officer, European Commission, DG GROW, following her presentation at the JEC Early Bird session on 4th March on the Clean Industrial Deal.

This session saw EuCIA, in partnership with JEC, launch of the European Circular Composites Alliance. This new initiative is dedicated to establishing a circular economy for composites in Europe.

Products incorporating recycled materials

Gees Recycling showcased various panels incorporating mechanically recycled blade materials. These lightweight, corrosion resistant, recyclable products are ideal for a wide range of building and construction applications, including concrete formwork, shelters and containers, building facades, tables, benches and outdoor furniture.

Gjenkraft displayed materials recovered from blades using its thermal recycling process. It also brought along a pair of skis manufactured using carbon fibres recycled from blades developed in a collaboration with EVI ski and Vattenfall. (Read more about this project.)

Enecolab was available to explain how it is turning the dust and fines produced during composites processing into energy.

ETAT9 demonstrated two examples of wind blade repurposing – a display made from a blade tip on the REFRESH booth, and a picnic table made from waterjet cut blade parts shown on the EuCIA booth.

Presentations

Project coordinator Daniel Grisenti of RINA Consulting also delivered the presentation REFRESH: from end-of-use blades to new products on 4th and 6th March as part of the Research & Innovation Projects conference programme.

Next steps

This week was a real milestone for REFRESH. The project is now just beyond the half-way point and, as visitors to our booth will have seen, we have lots to show and discuss as we start to scale up and demonstrate our wind blade recycling solutions.
